Why Podcasting

The excitement about podcasting started almost immediately - two days after iTunes launched podcasts in 2005, over 1 million people had downloaded a recording.  And it just grows. One study predicts that by 2010 56 million people will be downloading and listening to podcasts as part of their routine.  No wonder thousands of companies like IBM and CBS include podcasting as part of their marketing toolbox.

That's great for IBM and CBS, but why should non profits, foundations and social entrepreneurs use podcasting to get their message out to donors, members, media and constituents?  Because  podcasting is an even better medium for the non-profit and social entrepreneur community…in fact, podcasting is  P.E.R.F.ECT – it is Portable, Engaging, Requested, Flexible, Effective, Cost-efficient and Targeted.

Portable.  Podcasts go where your audience goes and where your organization is.  Listeners can carry them on their iPods, their smart phones, their laptops. Plus, making podcasts is portable. InTheStudio podcasts can come from where your organization's work is. We can record people anywhere on the globe quickly and cheaply, allowing us to bring your work around the world to your constituents and put it right in their pockets.

Engaging.  Podcasts are conversations, either among people talking to each other on the podcast, or between the podcaster and the listener, who is thinking about what she is hearing and mentally replying or actually emailing comments.  Start, stop, go back, re-listen, react and reply – it is all possible with podcasts.

Requested.  Everyone who listens to a podcast, asked for it .  They downloaded because they are interested in the topic or the interviewer or the people on it. They want to hear what you have to say. No other medium does this.

Flexible. Podcast can be a 1 minute "factoid", a 5 minute update, a 25 minute panel discussion. Listeners can pick their topic and their length.  And we can produce them all. This means that podcasts are the ideal medium to reach busy people, people who listen to podcasts while they run, commute, exercise – people who get things done.  People who volunteer, donate and serve on boards or start companies or run organizations.

Effective.  Because they are requested and engaging, podcasts have become one of the most powerful tools available for marketing and communication. People listen so they learn and – if your message is powerful, they can act, especially if they are listening on a  mobile phone or laptop where they can log on to your website and act immediately.

Cost-efficient.  We can produce a broadcast quality podcast from anywhere in the world that thousands of people will hear for a tiny fraction of a video or print ad that may have far less circulation. And we can help you use it as a marketing tool.

Targeted.  Despite its large numbers of listeners, podcasting is a niche medium.  People search for and download podcasts on those topics they want to hear about.  Unlike print or video or radio, podcasts go only to the people who want to know about you.

In sum, podcasting is perfect for non-profits, foundations, authors, social entrepreneurs. So join us InTheStudio to make your podcasts.
